One More Venice

This is another Venitian painting, wanted to include the setting sunlight, the photo is taken in the evening so the actual painting is not correctly portrayed in the digital image, alas. Anyway, here it is. Comments welcome.

Venice

Two paintings of the same subject, Venice, only slightly different from each other, ie, the horizontal boat replaced by three vertical ones to balance the composition. The mood and atmosphere I tried to convey are sunset/moonlight, everything subdued. Only 4 colours used for harmony. Here they are:

Hyde Park once again

I made a painting of the sketch I posted recently, on half imperial sheet. The sky is a bit different, the sky in watercolor, if you are using wet in wet, is always a happy accident or sad disaster. This time it is OK. The rest was easy and the finished painting is here:

Back to Painting

Have not done a thing since Deepavali, ie after returning from Brussels and Leiden. Too many other things, the internet was not working for a week, very irritating. Finished another painting of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple. Here it is:

Painting Workshop in Peak District

I attended a painting workshop by the famous English Watercolour painter Peter Woolley on 27-28 September in Hartington, Peak District area. Went outdoors on first morning and did some sketches of a barn nearby and in the afternoon went along with Peter in painting the same. Couldn't finish by 5.00, so carried into the second morning which was very gloomy to go out. But by the time we finished, sun came out and went out for sketching the stonewalls which are part of the landscape here. After which Peter showed us how to paint the stonewall, there was just time enough for that! Here I post all the work I did as also Peter's. I finished the stone wall painting today. The first one is the painting by Peter Woolley as well as the sketch below(4th image).

Ithaca Skyscape

This is the veiw of the university from Cass park. Medium size sketch! Not sure it will be worth making a big painting out of it?!?!

Bridge at Taughannoc Falls (upstate NY)

This is the reference photo for my painting, a rather tough one, at many stages it looked like a goner, but I needed the support for another painting, has to finish it, so the agony went on, now it is out of the board, and I think I could say I scraped through and saved it, sort of. Here it is:

What do you think?

Tower Bridge London

This one I started before going to Ithaca, finished it yesterday, in involved lots of washes and drying time in between, but I was patient and finished it at last. Hope it is OK?

Big Ben and Friends

This painting is finished (?) today, I had started this in August before crossing the Atlantic. To achieve balance I added the boat on the left side though it was not on the reference photo. Is this complete yet, does it need something more? I am waiting for a few days before deciding. Views welcome!

Barn and Silos

We stopped on our way back from WATKINS Glen to take photograph of this barn building and the adjusant Silos, which I wanted to paint. Today I completed the painting. First I made a small study which is in my view is better than the bigger version, I changed the colour of the Silos to dark blue which I regret now. Here are the study and the painting:

Two from Taughannock Falls!

I did 2 paintings after visiting Taughannock Falls near Ithaca. The digital versions do not reflect the real paintings which look better in real life. The first one has gone to the framers!

Big Ben

This is the view of the Big Ben from the Thames south bank. Though the buildings seem to have leaning problem no such thing in the painting, this is the way it is photographed causing the problem.

Hi, painting on and off over the last few days I completed 3 paintings, they are here, one is st pauls cathedral, though I had posted earlier, I did some washes over it to make it shiny, though it does not show in the photo, the second is of 3 boats, just to exercise my skills over boats, and the third one is of Tuscany, the landscapes of which are real designers' delight! Enjoy.

To day I made a painting of the Holyrood Palace(photo here) at Edinburgh:

Here is the painting, 16" x 12" Arches Rough 300gms.

St Palus's Cathedral, London

The famous St Pauls Cathedral offers immense opportunities for a painter. I have done that previously, with a closure viewpoint. It is here.

Today I completed another painting, from a different viewpoint, from the start of the Millennium bridge. This is 28"x 20". Have a look!

Inside Westminster Abbey

There is a little garden tucked away in a nook of the Westminster Abbey, which was not open for public. I took some photos, and today made a sketch out of it for a future painting. Here it is:

Cornell Varsity Campus

As soon as you enter the Cornell University campus, where my son studies, you see this scene. I just made a sketch of it for the time being, may be a full painting later.

Farm House

Today I made a painting of a farm house with typical settings. Though it is ok overall, there are too many attractions which take the eye away from the focus, the farm house itself, I should have downplayed the foreground shapes a bit I think. Here is the painting.

Windmill

This is a painting of a windmill, I wanted to exercise with the sky (clouds), windmill gave enough scope for that. A cloudy sky with light sneaking out. The water reflects the sky as well as the windmill(the difficult part of the painting). I think I did OK. Here is the painting.
